Evolution and Vanguard

The vineyard is located at an average altitude of 850 m, on a slope perpendicular to the Duero River that crosses the town from east to west. The terrain of the Pago de Carraovejas vineyards is gently undulating, flat in the center of the valley; steep and abrupt as we ascend. In the vineyards of Pago de Carraovejas three varieties of grapes are grown: Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with different cultivation systems: Double Cordon Royat and vertical axis, with two types of viticulture adapted to the orography of the estate that can be defined as traditional viticulture in the valley and mountain viticulture, in some cases with slopes of over 20% and in others with a system of terraces on the slopes with excessive gradient. Looking to the future, they continue to expand the plantations in the areas that the orography allows, seeking to improve and adapt the crop year after year, by means of a clonal selection of their best “canteros”, thus obtaining an excellent raw material to make the wines they produce. To this end, and based on the concept of precision viticulture, we continue in a permanent restructuring and modernization of the estate. Varieties are homogenized in plots they consider necessary, the original rootstocks are changed for others more suitable for the type of soil, plots are reoriented in search of greater sunlight, vineyard conduction systems are used with new structures…, but always with the final objective of improving quality and achieving balance in the harvests as a whole. All these factors, added to the work carried out in the shade of the vineyards by the entire staff and after a careful and meticulous winemaking process, define the “Pago de Carraovejas” seal. carraovejas
